- Hardness Testing: Hardness is the property of a material that characterizes its resistance of plastic deformation. Available hardness testing techniques include:
- Rockwell
- Brinell
- Vickers
- Microhardness
- Mohs Hardness
- Holiday (Pinhole) Detection
- Paint/Deep Coating Testing: Paint and coating inspection verification and reporting by certified inspectors in accordance with NACE procedures are available for marine or plant applications.
- Additional services include client consultation, QA/QC on paint/coating related matters wet sponge techniques.
- Fluorescent/Visible Magnetic Particle Testing (MPI): This widely utilized NDT method detects defects in magnetic materials. MPI is fast and requires little surface preparation. It is ideal for inspecting welds on structural parts, piping, castings, forgings and valve assemblies.
- Fluorescent & Visible Liquid Penetrant Testing: Our liquid penetrant examination method applies a colored or fluorescent dye to a surface. After a short dwell time, the dye penetrates surface discontinuities such as cracks, seams laps, cold laps, cold shuts, laminations, and porosity. It is ideal for detecting flaws in nonporous metals, plastics, glasses, and ceramics.
- Positive Material Identification: Alhoty offers two methodologies for material identification.
- X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF): Alhoty’s Portable Niton™ XL2 Analyzer by Thermo Scientific™ detects the energy dispersion of fluorescent x-ray energy to identify alloy compositions accurately.
- Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES): Alhoty’s portable and battery-operated OES instrument can chemically analyze the Carbon and Boron content parts for without removing the part from service.
- Radiographic Testing: Radiography is a widely-used NDT methodology for detecting surface and subsurface features in welded parts, castings and forgings. It accurately measures wall thickness and map corrosion. Radiography also detects blockages in sealed equipment. In concrete structures, it is ideal for locating reinforcement and measuring bulk density and porosity. Alhoty offers three methodologies for radiographic testing.
- Iridium-192 – A conventional film radiography methodology that offers high sensitivity and excellent accuracy.
- Selenium-75 (SCAR) – SCAR is a new technology that has become more widely used in the last decade. It is valid for detecting corrosion through insulation material with minimal preparation. SCAR offers the following advantages:
- Minimal Disruption: With a safe radius of less than 2 meters, SCAR requires only a small shutdown area. The test completes in less than 24 hours requiring minimal downtime and little disruption to adjacent work centers.
- Portable Equipment: Lightweight and easy to transport.
- Minimal Risk: Using a self-contained radioactive source, the SCAR technique minimizes radioactive exposure. There is minimal interference with Nucleonic Level Gauges.
- Quick Screening: HOIS JIP techniques are efficient for corrosion and erosion screening of complex geometries and small bore piping with minimal hydrocarbon release.
- Computed Radiography (CR) – A digital equivalent to conventional radiography film methodology. CR offers the following advantages:
- Minimal Consumable Usage: Reusable imaging plates that do not require a darkroom or chemicals
- Shortening Image Processing: Reduction in processing time with software-based evaluation and reporting.
- Digital Data Archiving & Reporting: Standardized data exchange (DICONDE format) with networking capabilities.
- Image Manipulation: Digital magnification, image optimization and filtering, histogram adjustment, annotation/drawing capabilities, and analytics.
- Flaw Detection: Accurate identification of cracks and flaws in welds and airframe structures
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT) & Thickness Gauging: Using sound waves, UT accurately and repeatedly detects cracks and defects and determines wall thicknesses. Alhoty uses portable UT equipment coupled with various methods to inspect large, irregularly shaped parts that cannot be moved or transported. UT is portable with automatic operation.UT is available for a wide variety of applications including:
- Check fluid level in enclosures
- Inspect welds
- Determine wall thicknesses o Detect material flaws
- Characterize a wide variety of materials
UT is a useful testing method for Offshore Oil, Marine, Aerospace, Military and Defense and other industries.
